Ann Garner

Liberal Democrat Councillor for Sedgley Ward

About Me

Hello, and welcome to my web page, I am Councillor Ann Garner a Liberal Democrat Focus Team councillor and one of three councillors representing Sedgley Ward.

Sedgley ward is made up of much of the Southern part of Prestwich – stretching from Middleton Road in the East, right over both Bury Old Road and Bury New Road to Sedgley Park in the West, together with the Heywood Road and Whittaker Lane areas northwards towards the Metrolink Line

I am a 44 year old mother of two, teacher at a Manchester 6th Form College and a Liberal Democrat Councillor. My elder son is studying Ocean Science at University and the other has almost completed his BTEC qualification and also looking forward to uni studies. Andrew, my husband of over twenty years, is also a Lib Dem Cllr. Outside my family, job and political hobby, I enjoy being involved with Friends of the Earth, local community groups and gardening. My interest in politics was encouraged through my studies at the University of Bolton, as a mature student, in 1996. I volunteered to deliver Lib Dem leaflets to keep fit and later joined the party. I became a school governor of a local high school in 2000 and Councillor in 2003. I am up for re-election to Sedgley Ward, Prestwich in May 2012. Juggling family, work and politics is hard work but fun.
